Finding time for fitness.
Tuesday, December 13, 2011
There are never enough hours in the day, and despite our best intentions, fitness can sometimes take a back seat. In fact, sometimes it does not get a seat at all! A good way to put exercise back on your priority list is to find ways of fitting it in that doesn’t eat into your schedule. For example:
-
Turn travel into fitness. Walk, run or ride to wherever you need to go, instead of taking the car.
-
Park further away. This will automatically make-up your walking quota.
-
Multi-task. Squeeze in some push-ups, planks or lunges while you're watching TV.
-
Walk the dog. It's a great way to keep both of you fit!
-
Use your lunchbreak. If you work during the day, go for a walk or a jog on your lunchbreak. A bit of fresh air will always do you good.
-
Delegate. If you're getting bogged down by household chores and errands, share the load with your kids or partner.
-
Bring the family. Chose a workout you can all do together, or go to a gym that has a crèche for the kids.
-
Stop hitting snooze. Getting up just that little bit earlier will give you some free time that can be devoted to fitness.
-
Do mini work outs. Instead of exercising for an hour straight, try doing 10 minutes 3 times a day.
-
Walk and talk. Instead of sitting down when you need to make a call, take the phone with you and walk while you chat.
