Did you know that eating can help you relax? And we're not talking about eating yourself into a food coma either! There are loads of foods out there that are proven to have a calming and rejuvenating effect on the body. Here are 10 of the best.

  1. Oats - These have been used for centuries as a calming remedy, as they help you relax by balancing blood sugar levels.
  2. Calming Herbal Tea - Switch coffee for chamomile, lemon or lavender for a calming effect instead of a caffeinated buzz!
  3. Protein - Fish, legumes, nuts, meat and cheeses all have sources of tryptophan which is a chemical that helps relax the brain.
  4. Milk - Rich in calcium, milk is recommended as a nightcap because of its calming properties.
  5. Basil - This herb is a very calming food and can even help to induce sleep.
  6. Lettuce - Great for helping you relax, especially when blended as a juice before bed.
  7. Honey - This natural sweetener is high in magnesium and nerve-balancing potassium.
  8. Chocolate - Hooray! A small amount of quality chocolate can have relaxing effects, especially if it has between 60-70% cocoa solids.
  9. Mint - A herb that helps lower feelings of anger and nervousness.
